Prodrive and MSA Chairman to deliver Watkins Lecture30 Nov 2017
Former World Rally Championship-winning co-driver and Prodrive Chairman, David Richards CBE, will deliver the Motorsport Safety Fund Watkins Lecture at Autosport International in January.
Richards, who founded the world leading motorsport and technology business, Prodrive, in 1984, was appointed CBE for his services to motorsport in 2005. The lecture will follow quite a year for the chairman: in June he was inducted into the Motor Sport Hall of Fame and received the Spirit of Le Mans award from the Automobile Club de l’Ouest, and has recently taken over as chairman of the MSA.
During its more than three decades in the industry, Prodrive has won six World Rally titles, four British Touring Car Championships, four Le Mans titles, the Le Mans Series, FIA WEC GTE Am Teams' and Drivers' title and numerous national rally championship titles.
The company also managed the BAR F1 team for three seasons, peaking at second place in the F1 Constructors' World Championship in 2004.
Today, Prodrive employs more than 500 staff focusing on motorsport, advanced technology, composites and bespoke clothing and accessories for leading brands.
He joins Professor Watkins himself and renowned designer Adrian Newey as one of only three people to be invited to speak at the lecture twice in its 21 year history. When he previously spoke at the event in 2002, it was after Richard Burns had just won the World Rally Championship driver’s title while competing for the Subaru World Rally Team which Richards was running at the time.
With a wealth of experience across numerous motorsport series, it is sure to be a fascinating and insightful discussion.Admission to the lecture is free but attendees must register in advance here - https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeJ9-rHqMbV7DFMiV9h7lHz6i2bUAkPj00E2MhflBQH0fthHQ/viewform
