DYMAG ‘S NEW BOXSTROM CARBON HYBRID CAR WHEEL MAKES UK DEBUT AT AUTOSPORT INTERNATIONAL12-Jan-2017
The company famous for making wheels to supply F1 and IndyCar racing teams and legends such as Ayrton Senna, Nigel Mansell and Alain Prost, will give a UK public premiere of its new Boxstrom Carbon Hybrid Car wheel on their exhibitor stand 8405 at Autosport International 2017,widely regarded as Europe’s largest motorsport exhibition.
The Boxstrom Carbon Hybrid Car Wheel, named in tribute to Dymag’s founder Max Boxstrom, incorporates all the state-of-the-art design and technical expertise for which Dymag is renowned.
Visitors to Dymag’s Autosport International show space will get to view the Boxstrom Carbon Hybrid Car Wheel individually and fitted to a limited edition Oakley Design Bugatti Veyron, which will take centre stage on the Dymag stand.
Dymag will also be showcasing the brand new Spirit Motorcycles GP Sport-R fitted with their CA5 carbon composite motorcycle wheels.
The Boxstrom has already proved a huge hit in the automotive industry, with two major OEM wheel partnerships announced since its launch.
A partnership project between Dymag and UK-based Briggs Automotive Company (BAC), has seen the BAC Mono supercar fitted with carbon composite wheels featuring Dymag’s Boxstrom Carbon Rim.
Dymag manufactured the revolutionary new carbon-composite wheels with project partner BAC leading the design of the hub and spokes, which was created to perfectly complement and enhance the car’s looks.
Most recently Dymag has been chosen as the exclusive carbon wheel partner for the new Henrik Fisker designed EMotion Performance EV (electric vehicle). The pioneering UK based wheel manufacturer will work with the entrepreneur and world-renowned automotive designer’s company, Fisker Inc .
The partnership will see Dymag’s new lightweight Boxstrom Carbon Rim, with a bespoke Fisker design forged aluminium spoke system, fitted to the EMotion production cars.

Dymag’s expert team has developed a unique carbon composite wheel rim with a fully optimised load path that is protected by sacrificial bi-axial composite layers.
These revolutionary engineering and design features make the new Boxstrom Carbon Hybrid Car Wheel the lightest, stiffest and strongest wheel ever produced by Dymag; aimed at delivering the best performance combined with energy savings.
The new wheel offers many technical advantages including being typically 40% lighter than standard cast aluminium wheels, 25% lighter than equivalent OEM forged aluminium wheels (tested to typical OEM standards) and having a 30% to 40% lower moment of inertia than aluminium cast and forged wheels.
In tests the 20-inch Boxstrom Carbon Rim successfully out performed development targets. For example the Boxstrom achieved over 2.5m cycles on radial fatigue at loads up to 1,913kg without failure; and is certified to be used for static vehicle loads of over 750kg per vehicle corner, making it the strongest carbon composite wheel Dymag has ever made. The Boxstrom fully meets SAE, BS and JWL standards.
The design and manufacturing process for the new Boxstrom Carbon Hybrid Car Wheel is a result of Dymag securing £7.2m funding programme from the Advanced Manufacturing Supply Chain Initiative (AMSCI), a UKTI government programme designed to assist advanced UK manufacturers and is further supplemented by matching funding from a range of venture capital investors.
The AMSCI funding package provides the necessary investment capital to enable Dymag to realise its longer-term ambitions to move into high volume production of carbon composite auto and motorcycle wheels from a new UK based purpose built site.
The partnership between Dymag and the National Composites Centre (NCC) will see completion of the development of a volume production process for lightweight carbon composite wheels, in the new Dymag Research & Development cell located at the NCC’s Bristol based centre.
The new wheel comes 21 years after Dymag first introduced carbon composite motorcycle wheels and 12 years since it launched the world’s first commercially available carbon composite auto wheels safety tested for street use.
The new Boxstrom Carbon Hybrid Car Wheel is initially available in sizes: 20 x 9”, 20 x 10.5”, 20 x 11”, 17 x 7.5”, 17 x 9” with a 20 x 12” and more sizes including a range of 16” to 22” to follow shortly during the course of 2017, as market requirements evolve.
