50 years of Formula Ford

Formula Ford celebrated 50 years of racing at the show in 2017. Ayrton Senna’s Van Diemen RF81 plus the car that started it all, the Lotus 51, was on display. Historic Sports Car Club (HSCC) hosted a stunning line-up of famous Formula Fords dating back to the very first race at Brands Hatch in July 1967 to the present day. Formula Ford played a pivotal role in developing top motor racing talent with alumni including Nigel Mansell, Damon Hill, Ayrton Senna, David Coulthard, Mark Webber, Daniel Ricciardo and many more. Visit the HSCC in Hall 6 Stand 6710 to witness five decades of this iconic single-seater series.

RS500

The RS500 Owners Forum and Community bought a rarefied collection of road-going and race Sierra RS500 Cosworths to mark the iconic performance car’s 30th anniversary at the show in 2017.

Petrolheads got the chance to see up to 14 of these cars together on one stand and see the first ever RS500 to compete in DTM in 1989 with the unmistakable LUI livery.

The Sierra RS500 Cosworth was first announced back in July 1987 and homologated in August of the same year. To satisfy the homologation requirements for Group A Touring Car racing, 500 road-going RS500s were produced – all in RHD exclusively for the UK market.
