Gatellie was formed in 1987 by Steve Turvey, beginning by selling team jackets and clothing. Within a few months the company started trading at local kart circuits, this instigated deals with the importer of DID chain, YAK rainwear and the Centurion Venom helmets. This arrangement also included the southern agency of the UK for a brand of kart racewear. Within twelve months Gatellie were established as a major force in the karting market. In 1991 Gatellie formed its own brand of racewear, being at the forefront of fashion and design, it quickly established the Gatellie brand in all forms of racewear and soon to become market leaders creating some five styles of kart suit in various colours and designs. During 1993 we established ourselves in the European and world-wide market. National kart champion Nick Smith joined the company in 1995, becoming a partner in the business and expanding into race tuition and the well known kart school. July 1996 saw the opening of a new purpose built manufacturing unit in Brackley to cope with the ever increasing demand not only for racewear but also gloves, boots, kart covers, tyre bags, indeed everything for the kart enthusiast. Suppliers to the trade of D.I.D. chain, Arai crash helmets and Shell oil, Gatellie are a major source for motor race fans and trade alike. During 1998 homologation was achieved for the Gatellie range of Nomex fire proof International race suits for cars. Gatellie have always tried to put a lot back into the sport and this is shown clearly by some of the drivers they have supported in previous years. These include Anthony Davidson ( double Junior British champion ) who went on to become a Fullerton factory driver in Formula Super A and is now works driver for Biesse, Daniel Wheldon ( multiple Junior champion, Formula A World cup winner ) and now winning in Formula Ford and for 1999 will race in the US SCCA series, and Mark Allen ( one of the most successful 250cc drivers in the UK ). Adam Jones and Oliver Jarvis were added to the team in 1997. Adam, a winner of the 'O' Plate in JICA went on to race in Super One Formula A, with one win already to his credit. In 1998 he raced for the works O'Neill Tonykart team, with additional sponsorship from Fletchers Bakeries. Then in 1999 he won one of the coveted places at La Filiere, the top French Racing School. Oliver was the revelation of 1997 in JICA, coming third in the Super One RAC British Championships, and nearly winning Champions of the Future as well. He was vice-champion in the Junior British Kart Championships during 1998 and won this prestigious championship outright in 1999, at the same time as mounting a European Formula A challenge. In 2000 Oliver achieved third place in the MSA British Kart Championships, his first year of senior Formula A racing in the U.K Adam Jones went on to win the Elf La Filiere single seater Campus championship in 1999 and will go forward to Formula 3. Also in 2000 Gatellie International team driver Stuart Turvey became vice champion in the BARC Renault single seater series. For 2001 Gatellie International briefly ran a current Dallara Spiess Opel Formula 3 single seater in the Power Tour series, before the group re-organisation. During June 2001 Gatellie Racewear became part of the David Charles Group, and is now able to offer an even larger range of products and services. A new shop opened on 1st July, with late night opening on Tuesday plus Saturday mornings, for customer's convenience.
