SVSP Advanced Composites, or Severn Valley Sailplanes as we were known when we started out in Gloucestershire almost 30 years ago, originally specialised in repairing and servicing gliders. We have come a long way over the years and, while we no longer service gliders, our experience at developing innovative composite solutions to complex problems is now in demand from the aerospace, motorsport, telecommunications, transport, aviation and military sectors. However, we remain proud of our roots which enabled our steady growth into one of the UK’s foremost suppliers of machine engineered foam components to leading UK and international clients. We continually invest in machinery to ensure our manufacturing facilities are equipped to high standards including dedicated areas for manufacturing complex composite parts using a range of pre-preg materials and autoclave curing methods. Our well-stocked warehouse means we can supply foam core materials in full sheet, cut sheet or fully machined parts. With some of the best equipment and materials available on-site, our engineers and technicians have a wealth of experience at engineering foam materials into bespoke shapes for aerospace, motorsport and other specialist markets. Our team particularly enjoys applying its expertise to solving new research and development challenges. We actively promote an ‘open door policy’ and encourage clients to visit our facilities and talk to our team about their requirements. Our customer service and quality assurance accreditation demonstrate our commitment to providing intelligent precision solutions tailored to individual client needs. Martin Carolan: Having started his career working on accident damaged cars Martin transferred the skills he had learnt to gliders. In 1987 he started work with Roger Targett Sailplane Services In 1990 he formed his own company Severn Valley Sailplanes. Until 2006 he personally under took all repairs and maintenance. Today Martin’s prime responsibility is the day to day management of the company which now employs 7 staff. In late 2012 the glider maintenance side of the business was transfered to Andrew Flewelling while Martin retains control of the web-based shop. By making use of his extensive knowledge of glider repairs this has grown to be the UK’s premier supplier of repair materials and general spares for glider pilots and owners alike.
