The company was originally formed by enthusiastic, accomplished industry professionals with significant expertise in engineering and design. Expertise that has been employed, challenged and honed with other manufacturers such as Ford, Jaguar, Rover, GM, Rolls Royce, Land Rover, TVR and Jensen. Originally called Phantom Automotive Ltd, the first GT car was designed by former Jaguar designer, Chris Greville-Smith, and further developed by a world-leading automotive design studio in the UK. The team's commitment to delivering superior performance was demonstrated by the use of wind tunnel testing and chassis finite element analysis. Our most recent development has been the stunning Vortex V2: an exciting road-legal, Lotus 7-type sports car. The V2 is closer to our racing roots and powered by the Ford's Ecoboost range of engines. New and more powerful engine options, engineering improvements and customer driven refinements were introduced. Moving away from the self-build market, Vortex Automotive upgraded the engine options with the Ford Ecoboost 2.3 or 2.0 litre engine producing 350/280bhp. The Vortex was featured in Wired magazine's March 2011 issue. The company changed its name to Vortex Automotive Ltd in 2008, allowing continued development and evolution on a tested and proven platform. At this point the car was developed to accommodate the Ford Duratec 2.0 turbo engine producing 280bhp.
