Gilford Motorsport was founded in 2000 by Nick Atkins, Don and Debby Halliday and Heather Stirling to contest the I.S.C.S. European endurance series. mFLOR Motorsport is welcomed into the family, to promote the designer flooring it manufactures and markets. See mFLOR products at www.mflor.com The company is owned by Nick Atkins and his partner Eef van Leusden. Nick Atkins and stepson Oliver Stirling race for the team. As well as endurance and V de V, Gilford Motorsport mainly concentrates on historics, from the Tiga GC286 ex Le Mans, through to two fiercely contested Championships in Sports 2000 Historic and Pinto. Racing now are the Lotus Elite and Lotus Elan, gaining wins in UK and Europe. Based in Bedfordshire, the Gilford team chose the BMW M3 E36 for the I.S.C.S. European endurance series and ran successfully with the engineering support and BMW knowledge of Dave Lampitt and his brilliant team - who built us a superb car. After an accident involving a guest driver at Barcelona, a second car was commissioned. Thanks to Richard Eggar and his excellent race insurers REIS, and with the help of Guy Povey, a new car had been built before the next race. Gilford achieved some very good results at the Nurburgring 24 hrs and Spa 24 hrs, plus podium at Zandvoort with Joe Macari and Ian Donaldson driving, and of particular note was Ross Bygrave’s heroic stints in the Spa 24H, placing us 2nd in class and improving, before another driver broke the diff at the Bus Stop. Despite Dave, Pete and the other engineers changing the diff in 16 minutes we weren’t able to make up time to claim our deserved 1st in class and this car ran successfully until the team’s endurance racing was terminated on Don’s sad ill health.
